Many of us in the foodservice industry have been focused on Coronavirus over the past several months; however, this week I feel compelled to address a very different crisis. What happened to George Floyd in Minneapolis is deeply disturbing and was unacceptable for its lack of humanity, equality, dignity, and respect. One of the values that is core to our company is that diversity makes us stronger—diversity of thought, diversity of experience, and diversity of background. Racism and discrimination of any kind have no place at Foodbuy or Compass Group. I realize this has been a very painful period, and I would just ask that every one of us take this time to listen and learn from each other and offer our support. It’s the right thing to do and what we need to do.
I am committed to ensuring that we do our part at Foodbuy to combat racial inequality. While inclusion and equality are fundamental to our culture, we all must strive to look for opportunities to improve, which is why we are in the process of identifying tangible actions that we believe will make a difference. It is important that we are thoughtful and considerate in our response to this challenge and that our actions lead to impactful change. The Foodbuy community is working together to identify our next steps, which we plan to communicate as soon as they are finalized.
