The Foodbuy Element: How Foodservice Procurement Supports Big-Time Events
Horses, Hats, and Hot Browns
For many years running, Foodbuy has assisted Levy Restaurants with foodservice procurement needs for one of the largest spectator events of the year – the Kentucky Derby. While this massive sporting tradition is associated with horses, hats and roses, the food and beverage element is an essential part of the Derby. That includes the Derby Hot Brown turkey sandwich. In order to ensure enough of this signature menu item for spectators, Foodbuy assisted Levy in procuring 8,500 pounds of turkey for the event.
Levy, which is part of Compass Group (Foodbuy’s largest foodservice customer), specializes in providing vending and food services to major entertainment and sports venues. And wherever Levy requires big-time food purchases, like the Kentucky Derby, Foodbuy is right there, partnering with them to ensure they get what they need.
On Saturday, May 4, Levy helped put on the “Greatest Two Minutes in Sports”. As much as the Derby celebrates the hats, sundresses, and seersucker suits, the food and beverages served deserve a celebration worthy of the race itself.
