Foodbuy Is Proud to Be a Part of this International Day of Action
Did you know that 33% of all food produced globally is lost or wasted every year? In fact, 25% of the food wasted globally could feed all 795 million undernourished people in the world. Many people in the foodservice and hospitality industries recognize this as a major problem. That’s why they came together to establish Stop Food Waste Day, and international call to action for producers, procurers, operators, and individuals. The goal? To combat systemic food waste across multiple industries.
Since its inception in 2017 by Compass Group, Stop Food Waste Day has evolved into the largest single day of action in the fight against global food waste, mobilizing organizations and individuals across the world to drive change.
This global initiative continues to scale its impact, uniting stakeholders across the supply chain to educate, inspire, and activate behavior change. From operators and procurement leaders to consumers at home, the movement empowers every touchpoint in the food ecosystem to rethink how food is sourced, prepared, and utilized.
At its core, Stop Food Waste Day is designed to ignite systemic change by raising awareness of the issue while delivering practical, actionable solutions. Through toolkits, recipes, and industry collaboration, the initiative provides scalable strategies that help transform surplus ingredients into value-driven outcomes: reducing waste while enhancing operational efficiency.
